Nick Vujicic (Nicholas James Vujicic) is a motivational speaker and an evangelist from Australia, living in the United States. He was born with a rare disorder called phocomelia—a medical condition that results in missing arms and legs. Many people would have been overwhelmed by this physical state, some would have even given up on life… but not Nick Vujicic. When I first watched his motivational video, a few years ago, I was floored by the positive energy radiating from this amazing gentleman. First of all, Nick Vujicic exudes a level of confidence that is rarely seen in another human being. In addition, his entire personality—attitude, optimism, outlook on life, effervescent nature—is contagious. He has spread his message of hope and faith to six million people in close to 60 countries; however, in my opinion, not many people know about him. Nick Vujicic—what an amazing person; what an inspiration!

I am blogging about Nick Vujicic because of a reason. I know someone who is a cancer survivor. Even though she has gone through a lot in her life, she has a spring in her steps that is rarely seen in another person. She is active, mobile and most importantly living life to the fullest. I also know a few people who are suffering from diabetes. They are, however, depressed, reserved, resentful and have given up on life entirely because they cannot eat the food they love. I understand their plight and empathize with their situation knowing that diabetes can be a very debilitating disease. What I don’t understand is the “giving-up-on-life” attitude that pervades their day-to-day existence, because, to me, ’tis such a waste of time and life!

How many of us have the “woe is me” attitude in life? Do you bemoan the fact that you are not as rich, beautiful, thin, fair, famous  or whatever, as the person next door? How many of us are in a depression because we have let life/situations/events overwhelm us? How many of us shed silent tears saying—”life has been unfair to me…“; “it seems everybody is conspiring against me…“; “I am such a loser…“; “Nothing nice ever happens to me…“; etc., etc., etc. How many of us are living our life to meet someone else’s expectations of us? Are you not pursuing your dreams and aspirations because of the fear of failure, and how many of us are blaming our failures on someone else? How many of us are not holding ourselves accountable for what’s missing in our lives?

All of us have just one chance at this—our existence; hence, why not live life to the fullest? Why move through life with a woe-begone face? Many of us live our life so cautiously that we die brand new. C’mon everybody… live a little!

If you have spent even an iota of your time crying over spilt milk; do your thoughts begin with “coulda, shoulda, woulda”; if you blame fate, destiny, karma or kismet for your suffering, distress or misfortune, then, please take 10 minutes of your time to watch this video. If you allow the message to seep through to your soul, it may change your life.

Life lessons from Nick Vujicic

When you are growing up in life it actually sort of matters to people how you look. And it then matters to you because it matters to others.

… the fear that we have is that we are going to be alone. That we are not good enough and, you know, we need to change ourselves.

There are some thing in life that are out of your control, that you can’t change and you got to live with. The choice that we have, though, is to either give up or keep going.

Are you going to believe in yourself, or are you going to believe everybody else’s judgement on you? Are you going to believe people when they say that you’re a failure?

I don’t care how big your step is, it’s still one step at a time.

Maybe you’re worried about what people think of you, what people say about you. Just that fear paralyzes you.

it’s not the end until you’ve given up.

it’s funny how the friends [and family] around you determine who you are.

… you start losing losing yourself and you start putting your security in temporary things. You start putting your happiness in things that won’t last.
