Stunning facts about women in India experiencing public harassment! Some Indian men are simply perverts and sexual predators. There I said it! (Read More)

A poll by YouGov of 2500 women, who are in the age range of 16 years and above, in major cities of India, UK, Brazil and Thailand found that:

  1. Nearly 80% of Indian women have faced harassment or violence in public. It was 89% in Brazil, 86% in Thailand and 75% in  the UK.
  2. In India, a majority of the women who faced public harassment—84%—were 25 to 35 years old.
  3. Furthermore, in India, 82% of those harassed were full-time workers and 68% of them were students.
  4. In India, 39% of the women were groped in public. It was 41% in Brazil, 44% in Thailand and 23% in the UK.
  5. 70% of the women in Brazil felt unsafe in the city streets; it was 70% in Thailand and 43% in the UK. In India, 65% of the women felt unsafe in a public transport.

I have one advice of all Indian women—pepper spray ladies, pepper spray. Inexpensive, but highly potent; trust me on this.

Just having a pepper spray is not enough. Next, you should learn how to use it, too. Refer to this video for a short course on using pepper spray correctly.

Environment

Ouch, stifling summer heat! This must be brutal. Lots and lots of fluid to prevent dehydration and heat stroke. (Read More)

51°C (123.8°F), imagine that! Our vital organs work best when the body temperature ranges between 36°C-37°C. Anything higher and the body might find it difficult to cool itself. And not cooling the body down may lead to a heat stroke. Heat stroke or sunstroke is a potentially life-threatening condition, which is characterized by high body heat, high pulse rate, dehydration, difficulty breathing, etc. Seek immediate medical help if you or someone else is experiencing a heat stroke.

We maintain our body temperature by losing heat through sweating and breathing. Consequently, when humidity in the air and the air temperature rises, our body may struggle to lose heat and maintain the ideal body temperature. In such cases, other measures must be taken to cool the body down—drinking lots of fluids, wearing a wet towel around your neck; keeping your head covered with a cooling towel, etc.

I hate excessive heat. I still remember those days, years ago, when I had to traverse kilometers in dry heat to sustain myself. Gives me a heat stroke!

Say what now?

How many people would know the correct answer to the highest point on this planet? (Read More)

Did you know that Mt. Everest is not the highest point on Earth? It is actually Mt. Chimborazo in Ecuador. Say what now? Yes, it is because of the shape of the Earth—oblate spheroid—which makes anything closer to the center, the equator, higher than anything at the either poles. Since the Himalayan range are to the north of the equator, they are actually lower than the mountains located near the equator. By how much? 21 kilometers—that’s the natural boost that Mt. Chimborazo gets because of its proximity to the equator.

Now, go ahead and use this geography knowledge to stump some of your friends or even enemies. Just make sure that you do not get into a fist fight over this matter. Capiche?
